Sally Bulteel is a UK artist, based in Hertfordshire. She has a background in Fashion Design studied at Gloucestershire College of Art & Design and Fine Art studied at Bucks New University. Alongside her practice she teaches Art and Textiles within secondary education. She has supported local Art communities; coordinating Art Weeks with the Visual Images Group in Buckinghamshire. Sally Bulteel exhibited at the Mall Galleries with ING Discerning Eye in 2025. Her work is held in private collections across the UK, including London, Bristol, Gloucestershire, Leicestershire and Buckinghamshire as well as internationally in Australia. At present her focus is the natural world, with a recent body of work dedicated to British birds. This was inspired by a renewed connection with nature during daily walks during lockdown, which encouraged a deeper appreciation for the beauty of her surroundings.
I work primarily in acrylic and print, using vibrant colours and bold contrasts to create a visual rhythm across the canvas. My compositions balance flat, simplified shapes with expressive painterly textures and techniques, resulting in dynamic, intuitive pieces. While the subjects in my work remain recognisable, they are not strictly realistic, instead, they serve as vessels for personal interpretation and emotional resonance. Each piece begins with my own sketches and photographs, often supported by research from books. The creative process is an open-ended journey, one that frequently shifts direction and allows for spontaneous discovery. Through this exploration, I aim to capture an inner vision of the world, one that celebrates nature’s vivid presence and its capacity to inspire joy and reflection.
